New Visions Health and Medical Sciences

  • New Visions Health and Medical Sciences is an exciting and challenging option for students interested in medicine and related life sciences. In cooperation with the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, students gain wide exposure to the varied careers in medicine. The applied learning approach integrates the required senior year courses of English, Government & Economics, and Advanced Studies in Health Sciences.

Progressing through rotations, students observe and participate in departments such as Same Day Surgery, Outpatient Services, Surgicare and the Convenient Care Center, providing opportunities to learn about ancillary and support services related to the medical sciences. In this fast-paced demanding program, students learn what is required of professionals in health care and medical sciences, and see first-hand how their education is applied to daily real-life situations.

Students integrate their assigned reading, essays, research and debates into their rotations and into their interactions with physicians, administrative personnel and support staff. This course is both academically and personally challenging; its students are held to the highest level of achievement.

Students will receive integrated high school academic credits for the following courses (one credit for each course – total of four credits): English 12 Honors, Economics/Participation in Government Honors, Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Medical Sciences.
