Edmentum Courseware (PLATO) – FREE Resource for Home School Families

  • We are extremely excited to continue offering Edmentum Courseware to home instruction families. This is an online curriculum resource available to current home instruction families in participating districts. Courses are designed for students in grades 6-12 and require oversight by the parent/guardian instructor. This resource is paid for by the TST BOCES Home Instruction Office and is therefore free to Home Schooling Families that report to TST BOCES. Edmentum Courseware may be utilized by instructors to supplement or serve as the basis of the instructional plan.

Although the TST BOCES Home Instruction Office provides free access to this software, parents/guardians are fully responsible for course selection, instruction and course management including reporting. Instruction is not provided by TST BOCES or Edmentum. Internet access and comfort using online technologies are essential.  Periodic training/webinars/workshops for new and existing users will be offered on the TST BOCES campus for parents/guardians wishing to use this instructional tool.

The Edmentum Courseware Help section will give you a good idea of what the program looks like and how it works. The course catalog is also available for viewing to determine whether PLATO has the right courses for your family. PLATO training announcements will appear in the “Upcoming Events” section of the main Home Instruction webpage.

    How it Works

Parents/instructors and students interested in using PLATO will be assigned their own logins and placed into a “class” together. Parents/instructors will be able to select, assign, customize, manage, grade and pull reports on their child(ren)’s coursework across any grade level within that class. All reports must be submitted to the home instruction office via email, US mail or fax.

Home instruction families interested in using Edmentum Courseware should submit requests for user logins via email to homeinstruction@tstboces.org. Requests must include district of residency, your child’s name, your child’s academic grade level, and the name of the parent/teacher who will be managing class assignments.
