TST BOCES Earns Eight Awards at SkillsUSA after Hiatus

It’s been nearly a decade since the TST BOCES Career and Tech Center has competed in the Area II SkillsUSA competition, but the students more than made up for lost time by taking home eight awards, including a first-place finisher.

SkillsUSA is a national organization that allows career and technical education students the chance to enhance their leadership skills through participation in community service projects, fundraising opportunities and taking part in the regional, state and national competitions.

CTE students demonstrated their technical skills at SUNY Morrisville, competing against other BOCES in the region. Students will also have the opportunity to compete in the statewide competition set to be held at the NYS Fairgrounds April 22-24. First-place award recipients at the state competition will be given the chance to go on to compete nationally.

TST BOCES award recipients were: welding student Brad Lehr (Lansing), second place in Job Interview; Heavy Equipment student Kevin Harding (Dryden), second place in Diesel Equipment Technology; Digital Media student Alex Mitchell (Trumansburg), third place in Photography; Computer Tech/Cybersecurity student Michael (Cole) Darst (Ithaca), second place in Information Technology Services; Culinary Arts student Holden Horan (Dryden), third place in Food Prep Assistant; Cosmetology student Aubrie-Rose Cornell (Ithaca), first place in Cosmetology Junior; Heavy Equipment student Chance Tibbals (Ithaca), third place in Precision Heavy Equipment Operation; Heavy Equipment student Adam Howser (Groton), second place in Precision Heavy Equipment Operation.
