Student Athlete Sam LaMorte Has Leadership Pinned Down

Dryden Junior and TST BOCES student, Sam LaMorte, is a leader not only in the classroom, but also in the gym. This is LaMorte’s first year on Dryden’s wrestling team, where she has become a fierce competitor. Through her hard work and dedication, she took second place in the girls' Section IV Tournament. Even though she is the only female on her team, she says her teammates have had her back, “They have been extremely supportive,” she explained, “One of them actually says ‘Girl power!’ to me before every match.”

Being a leader for LaMorte goes beyond just being an athlete. When she is not pinning her opponents in a matter of minutes, she is at TST BOCES working alongside her classmates in the Nurse Assisting and Health Occupations Program. This is her first year in the program and she is up for the challenge. LaMorte states, “We actually are about to start our First Aid and CPR Unit, and I am already certified in that. I’m excited for it and feel like I can help share what I have learned with others!”

This has been a year of firsts for LaMorte, and her commitment to being a team player has stayed consistent throughout. Beyond being a fantastic student athlete, she is a true role model. Keep an eye out, because we do not think this will be the last time you will see her name in print.
