Earlier today, multiple school districts across our region and throughout New York State received a threatening message via email. In coordination with their local law enforcement agencies, many schools in our region that received the message entered lockout procedures as a precautionary measure, in coordination with their local law enforcement.

After thorough review and investigation by local, regional, and state law enforcement, schools have now exited lockout. Law enforcement officials continue to monitor the situation closely and have determined that there is no ongoing threat to school safety at this time.

Tompkins County Administration and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department are funding and coordinating increased patrols around schools to provide additional visibility and reassurance for students, staff, and families in the coming days.

We are grateful for the swift, coordinated response of our law enforcement partners and the calm, cooperative actions of our students, staff, and families. The safety of our school communities remains our top priority, and we will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure secure learning environments.
