The Doug's Fish Fry To-Go trailer will be serving up sea food varieties including fish, shrimp, and scallops, (fries and coleslaw too) at TST BOCES from 11:00am-6:00pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024! This will be an on-campus fundraiser with proceeds benefitting the TST BOCES Student Generosity Club, in the hopes of funding another mural to brighten the halls of the Smith School. 🏫 Meet Our New P-TECH Principal: Christine Alexander! 🌟 Christine finds her greatest joy in her two wonderful sons and amazing daughter-in-law, who inspire her every day. She is equally passionate about collaborating with teachers who lead innovative projects and build strong connections to enrich students' learning experiences. Nothing excites Christine more than the real-world impact of Project Based Learning (PBL), where students tackle engaging, real-world challenges that foster creative problem-solving skills. She believes our teachers are the true trailblazers—brave visionaries shaping the future with their courage to innovate and inspire the next generation. In the P-TECH program at TST BOCES, students work in small teams on complex, often ambiguous problems, developing the critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation skills essential for success in today’s world. 🚀 Bridge Week Continues: Day 3 & 4 Highlights! 🌟 Day 3: We kicked off the day in the Makerspace with the "Projects Against Humanity" challenge. Our students worked in pairs to tackle a "user," "need," and "constraint" to create innovative final products, which they presented to the group. Next, we had a thrilling TC3 Scavenger Hunt and wrapped up the day by having the students use the recording studio and heat press to make their very own P-TECH shirts! 👕🎤🔍 Day 4: We headed to Taughannock Falls State Park for a fun-filled day! Students participated in T-Shirt Origami, launching their freshly pressed shirts into the sky and competing against one another to see who could send theirs the farthest. We also enjoyed some friendly lawn game competitions against P-TECH staff members and participated in some more bonding activities. After, our students were inspired by a panel of P-TECH alumni and an incredible guest speaker, Skyler Springer, who shared her story of perseverance. The day ended with a picnic, where parents and siblings got to join in the fun! 🏞️🥏 Our future looks bright with these amazing students joining us at P-TECH! 🚀P-TECH Bridge Week—The Journey Begins! 🌟 This week marks a beloved P-TECH tradition: Bridge Week! It's all about welcoming our incoming 9th grade class with a series of STEAM challenges, bonding activities, and giving them an introduction to the Tompkins Cortland Community College campus. Each day is packed with new tasks, challenges, and includes some amazing guest speakers! On Monday, we began with some team bonding tasks, including a fun game where each team had to spot the differences in apparel on the opposing team. 🔍 You can see from the pictures, we all had a blast with this ice breaker!😆 There was a guest lecture from Ryan Sun, an engineer from BorgWarner, who shared his insights and experiences with our students. 👔 Tuesday started with an alliterative name game to help everyone remember each other's names. Then, students took on the Spaghetti Tower challenge, building the tallest structures they could with limited materials.🍝🏗️ We were honored to have Author Andrea Stewart as our guest speaker, who inspired students with her journey and creative process. 🌟🏆 Pride, passion, and dedication were on full display in Atlanta! 🌟🏆 To say we're beyond proud would be an understatement for how we feel about our four amazing CTE SkillsUSA students who qualified to compete in the National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Atlanta, GA, from June 24-28, 2024! Shoutout to: 🌟Keara Armstrong (Auto Body, Lansing Central School District) - who showed her skills in Auto Refinishing Technology 🌟 Gray Larson (Digital Media, Lansing Central School District) - competed in T-Shirt Design 🌟 Scianna Shank (Digital Media, Newfield Central School District) - worked her magic behind a camera in Photography 🌟Alex Shramko (Welding, Dryden Central School District ) - makes sparks fly in Welding Although Alex couldn't compete due to his report date for the United States Marines, Keara, Gray, and Scianna competed with talent and excellence! Even though our students didn't secure top placements, their experience was invaluable. They represented New York State with immense pride and gained so much from this incredible opportunity. The trip wasn't all work without some fun! The trip highlights include: 🤝 Connecting with SkillsUSA students from all 50 states, plus Guam, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands! 👋 Trading pins and making new friends from across the nation.
